This is our most in-depth course. You'll learn how to design a pattern for stained glass, learn how to cut complex shapes, grind, foil, solder, and how to finish a project professionally. Students are encouraged to bring drawings in for reference or gather inspiration online.
For beginners we strongly recommend sticking to dimensions within a 12”x12” or limiting pieces to under 25 so you can go home with a finished project. Past students have gone on to draft their own panels for cabinets, bookcases, and transoms.
Skills You’ll Learn (Week by Week)
Week 1: Safety, glass cutting techniques, essentials of pattern design
Week 2: Pattern design, choosing glass, cutting
Week 3: Continued cutting, grinding
Week 4: Cutting, grinding, principles of copper foiling
Week 5: Copper foiling, final assembly, soldering, optional patina and edge beading.
Tuition includes tool use and instruction; Consumables are not included. Plan on spending ~$75–$150 for glass, copper foil, and solder depending on the size and ambition of your project. You are welcome to bring your own glass and materials or purchase from us. :)
